This morning, President Trump signed the Great American Outdoors Act into law. This bipartisan bill proposed to fully fund the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) and will establish a National Parks and Public Lands Legacy Restoration Fund to support and maintain national parks, national forests, and public lands. We would like to thank everyone who submitted a letter to their legislator urging to pass the Great American Outdoors Act, this win would not be possible without you!
For over 50 years, The Land and Water Conservation Fund has generated funding to help establish and protect iconic parks and wilderness areas in California. The LWCF has funded hundreds of projects in almost every county in the state through fees collected from oil and gas leasing. Click here to see how the LWCF has benefited you.
The Land and Water Conservation Fund, which is often called America’s most effective land conservation program, has been a top priority of the Planning and Conservation League and the National Wildlife Federation. In 2019, PCL worked with the NWF to make sure this fund was reauthorized for years to come. Now, with the passage of the Great American Outdoors Act, we can make sure the LWCF is fully funded as well to keep protecting iconic landscapes across the nation.
Thank you to all of the members of the California Congressional Delegation for assuring that our state has the funding it needs to protect our parks and wilderness areas. The impact of the Great American Outdoors Act will be felt across California communities for years to come!
